FAQs

How do I use the Downy Ball?

Simply pour any Downy fabric conditioner up to the fill line in the bottle cap (per  instructions on the bottle), add to the Downy Ball, seal it and drop it right on top of your fabrics in your top-loader at the start of the wash. (Be sure to use only in  traditional—non-HE, or non-high-efficiency—washing machines.) The Downy Ball  time-releases  automatically so you don't have to wait around for the rinse cycle to  begin.

Can I use the Downy Ball in my front load washing machine?

No—the Downy Ball only works in top-loading—non-HE, or non-high-efficiency—washing machines.

Dryer sheets have numerous benefits, including softening, fighting pesky static cling and adding a delightful Downy scent.

not with wrinkle guard

I have been using Downy Balls for years and loved them. But, they don't work well with Wrinkle Guard.

Updated review!

I recently submitted a review on the ball and I don’t see any way to update it like Yelp, so here it goes...First off I do notice many reviews state how the ball doesn’t dispense the product and I had that issue too, where I thought it was a manufacturers error. But I realized something which was my own error... I had not payed attention to my washer settings prior to putting the Downy ball inside the washer. There is a setting on the rinse cycle to rinse with fabric softener and I wasn’t choosing that one, only the regular rinse which would not have been agitated enough to dispense all the liquid in the ball.I started selecting the with softener setting, as the manufacturer of my washer recommends using a Downy Ball. I have done multiple loads on that setting and after cycle completion the ball comes out clean 99.9% of the time, which is substantial to what I was dealing with before! I can’t say for everyone, but for me personally I can say this thing does what it’s supposed to do, and you need to pay attention to the settings on your machines. Don’t get upset when you choose the wrong one and don’t get the results you expected. Long story short, the Downy Ball WORKS! Only when set right. Also, you don’t have to use only Downy softener in the ball. I use Suavitel lavender softener and it works fine! Cool little product!

What happened to the Downy ball???

I had a Downy ball that I used for years. Years. It finally bit the dust and I went to the Dollar Store to get one. No Downy ball. Went to Kroger. No Downy ball. Finally tracked one down at Wal-Mart and I was so excited to use it. Very first time I used it, it broke. Ok.. no big deal, they come apart, I'll put it back together. It fell apart in the washer. Ok.. put it back together again. Threw it in the next load and it came out dented. Whatever, it still works, right? It keeps coming apart. Every. Single. Time. I. Use. It. Now, I could just go purchase a new one, right? But now I'm leery. If I keep buying a Downy ball every two weeks, I'm literally throwing my money in the trash. So forget it. I'll just use drier sheets and I'm trying out those woolen drier balls to see if I like those better.
