How to do Laundry the Downy Way

Faqs

How do I use Ultra Downy in the wash?
Simply add Ultra Downy to your fabric softener drawer. For top-loaders, you can also add directly to your washer drum during the rinse cycle, or use the Downy Ball if you don't feel like waiting around for the rinse to begin. Go to OLV/LINK for more information!

What does the Ultra mean in Ultra Downy?
Ultra simply means it's a concentrated product, having most of the water removed (as opposed to non-concentrated formulations). Be sure to carefully follow dosage instructions on the bottles.

I love Ultra Downy! What other products should I try?
We’re so glad! You might enjoy Fresh Protect In-Wash Odor Shield: use with detergent and Ultra Downy liquid fabric conditioner for 24-hour odor neutralization—like deodorant for your clothes!

Do I need to use detergent with Ultra Downy?
Yes, for best results, use WITH detergent. Ultra Downy is a fabric conditioner that will provide your clothing with scent, softness, static reduction and protection from the laundry damage of stretching, fading and fuzz.

How is Ultra Downy different from Unstopables?
Ultra Downy is a fabric conditioner; Unstopables are long-lasting scent boosters, not conditioners. Fabric conditioners provide scent, softness, static reduction and protection from the laundry damage of stretching, fading and fuzz.

What's the difference between a fabric conditioner and a dryer sheet?
Both provide fabrics with scent, softness and fight static; however, dryer sheets are heat activated in the dryer, whereas liquid fabric softeners are more easily infused in the wash. Additionally, fabric conditioners reduce wrinkles, provide for easy ironing and protect from stretching, fading and fuzz that occur in both the wash & dry processes.

Leaves an odor

This product has chemical smell and leaves a bad odor on the clothes after drying

The Downy Team 06/06/20

We're very sorry you had that experience. Although fragrance or perfume is not added to Downy Free & Gentle liquid, it have a scent due to its natural smell. Since there's no masking fragrance added to cover this smell, you may notice it before using the product, but it should not transfer to your fabrics after use. Please give us a call at (800) 688-7638, so we can help you with this.

Not worth your time

I bought this on a whim and it was not worth it. It has left stains on my clothes and sheets that I am unable to get out. You would think with since it's free and clear it wouldn't do this to your clothes, but that's wishful thinking. Get anything else over this.

We're sorry you had that experience. Any fabric softener can cause a greasy spot if it comes in direct contact with the fabric. Sometimes they may also look like wet spots on your garment or colored spots, but they’re not permanent. To remove the spots try these remedies. For small spots, dampen spots with warm to hot water and rub with Ivory bar soap. Rinse. Repeat if necessary, then, launder as usual. For larger spots, rewash with 2 capfuls of Liquid Tide Plus Bleach Alternative or Liquid Tide Original and the hottest water safe for the fabric. Also check your machine dispenser which may be clogged with fabric softener build-up. Give us a call at (800) 688-7638, so we can help you with this.

Too thick to pour. Doesn’t soften towels.

At first I thought it was a fluke but then I came on here and saw that a lot of people are having the same issues. It thickens up and turns into a glob. Plus I noticed that my bath towels are not soft as they are with other fabric softeners.

We're so sorry to hear about this! It may be helpful to know that this could happen when the softener is exposed to extreme heat or cold. We'd be happy to help further so please give us a call at (800) 688-7638.
